Marcos tells DFA, DMW to act fast after deadly New York crash

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has asked government offices to closely monitor the situation in New York after a terrible bus crash killed at least five people and hurt more than 20 others.

Palace Reacts – Help Must Be Ready

According to Palace Press Officer Atty. Claire Castro, both the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) and the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) are now working together to make sure that if any Filipinos are affected, they will receive the right help immediately.

She explained:
“The President ordered continuous monitoring of the situation so that our kababayan (countrymen) who might be affected can get proper assistance.”

The Tragic Bus Crash

The bus involved was a Van Wool Bus and Coach tourist bus owned by M&Y Tour Inc. from Staten Island, New York.

It was carrying 54 passengers, including the driver and crew, who were on their way back from a trip to Niagara Falls.

But tragedy struck along Interstate 90 in Upstate New York when the driver lost control of the bus. The vehicle rolled over several times before finally crashing off the side of the freeway.

What Happened to the Passengers

Police confirmed that five people lost their lives in the crash. More than 20 passengers were badly injured and were quickly rushed to hospitals such as:

  • Erie County Medical Center

  • Strong Memorial Hospital

  • Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital

  • UMMC in Rochester

Doctors and nurses worked hard to treat the survivors of the terrifying accident.

No Filipinos Among the Dead

The police and Philippine Consulate confirmed that no Filipinos were among those killed in the tragic bus crash. This news brought some relief to Filipinos abroad who were worried about loved ones.

Still, officials said they will stay alert in case there are any Filipino passengers among the injured.

Philippine Consulate Statement

The Philippine Consulate in New York released an advisory, saying it is keeping in its thoughts and prayers all those impacted by the tragic bus crash. They also promised to continue working with local authorities to monitor the situation closely.

In short: A tourist bus trip turned deadly in New York, leaving five dead and many hurt. President Marcos ordered the DFA and DMW to watch closely and help any Filipinos who might be affected. While no Filipinos are among the dead, the government says it will not stop monitoring until the situation is fully clear.
