President Bongbong Marcos Jr. has made a big choice—
He says he will not interfere in the possible removal (called impeachment) of Vice President Sara Duterte, even though many people expected him to speak up.
In a new episode of his BBM Podcast last Saturday, someone asked him:
“Mr. President, will you try to help or stop the impeachment?”
His answer?
“If a president chooses to do that, I choose not to.”
🧊 Marcos and Sara’s Cold War Heats Up
Even though they were once running mates in the 2022 election, the friendship between Marcos and Duterte is now clearly broken.
Marcos had earlier said he’s not in favor of impeaching Sara.
But Sara didn’t care about his statement—she brushed it off like dust. 😤
Now, lawmakers in the House of Representatives are moving forward with an official investigation and have even endorsed the complaint to the Senate. That means the process to possibly remove her is already rolling.
💬 Activists Speak Out: “Marcos, Do Something!”
Some advocacy groups are not happy with Marcos.
They say he’s too quiet and isn’t acting like a true leader by letting the impeachment go on without showing more concern or urgency.
But Marcos says the opposite:
“I’m focused on things that matter to the people—like lowering rice prices and fixing transportation problems.
That’s where all my time is going.”
He also said:
“To be honest, the impeachment is not my job. That’s Congress’ job. I have no role there.”
🏛️ Who Decides the Impeachment?
Marcos explained that:
-
Only the House of Representatives and the Senate have the power to handle impeachment.
-
The President is not allowed to interfere because of the rule called “separation of powers.”
Even Senate President Chiz Escudero backed him up and said:
“No, Marcos has nothing to do with any delays in the Senate.”
😡 What’s Causing the Rift Between Them?
Their fight may have started because of two main things:
-
The House is investigating Sara’s confidential funds.
These are secret government funds under her office, and many are asking how they were used. -
The House is also probing the deadly “drug war” from the time when Sara’s father, former President Rodrigo Duterte, was in power. That’s a very sensitive issue for her.
All of this seems to have pushed Sara and Marcos further apart.
🚫 Sara Won’t Attend Marcos’ Big Speech
To make things more dramatic—
House Secretary General Reginald Velasco said that Vice President Sara Duterte will NOT attend Marcos’ State of the Nation Address (SONA) on July 28.
That’s one of the biggest events of the year for the President.
When reporters asked about it, Malacañang (the President’s office) said:
“It’s her choice.”
🧩 What Happens Next?
-
Will Sara Duterte be removed from office?
-
Will Marcos and Sara fix their broken bond?
-
Or will this fight grow into an even bigger political war?
One thing’s for sure:
Everyone is watching—and the drama is just getting started.
