MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. signed into law a measure that will hasten infrastructure projects by facilitating easier acquisition of right-of-way sites.
Palace Press Officer Claire Castro told reporters that the President signed Republic Act (RA) 12289 or the Accelerated and Reformed Right of Way (ARROW) Act, which amends RA 10752 or The Right of Way Act.
The new law will speed up the acquisition of right-of-way sites or locations for private infrastructure projects for public use.
It also mandates the implementing agency of the project to draft a right-of-way action plan before the acquisition of a certain property.
Sen. Mark Villar, sponsor of the ARROW Act in the Senate, earlier underscored its significance in addressing persistent right-of-way issues that have long delayed government infrastructure projects.
“Many projects have failed to meet their target completion dates due to unresolved right-of-way delays. Given these challenges, we welcome the amendment of the existing right-of-way law,” Villar said.
“The ARROW Act introduces key reforms to make the law more responsive to the evolving infrastructure landscape,” he added.
