President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has given welcome news to workers and families in several parts of the country — a short pause from the daily grind.
Over the coming weeks of January and February 2026, special non-working days will be observed in five areas nationwide, allowing communities to celebrate milestones that shaped their history.
The announcement was made through Executive Secretary Ralph Recto, who issued separate proclamations covering one province, two cities, and two towns, according to an advisory released Saturday afternoon.
First on the list is Cadiz City in Negros Occidental.
On January 26, work will be suspended as the city marks the 52nd Dinagsa Festival — a lively celebration of faith, culture, and community spirit. This is covered by Proclamation No. 1143.
A few days later, history takes center stage in Ilocos Norte.
On February 2, the province will observe a special non-working day for its 208th Founding Anniversary, as declared under Proclamation No. 1147.
The celebrations continue in Biñan City, where February 3 has been declared a non-working day. The city will commemorate its 81st Liberation Day, honoring bravery and freedom under Proclamation No. 1144.
Down south, the town of Buug in Zamboanga Sibugay will also get a break from work. A special non-working day will be observed as the town celebrates its Founding Anniversary and the BOG Festival, in line with Proclamation No. 1145.
Finally, on February 28, Sarrat, Ilocos Norte will mark its Founding Anniversary with a special non-working day, as stated in Proclamation No. 1146.
These declared holidays give communities time to pause, remember their roots, and celebrate together — reminding everyone that some moments are meant to be honored, not rushed.
