🚨**NO PRICE HIKES IN MANILA!**🚨
Because of all the super strong rains and floods, the City of Manila is now in a State of Calamity—which means it’s in big trouble and needs emergency help. So, to protect people and make sure everyone can still afford to buy food and medicine, the local government made a big move: they froze the prices of important stuff for 60 days!
📅 This rule started on July 23 and will last for two whole months.
🛒 Here’s what that means:
Stores are NOT allowed to increase prices on basic things like:
-
🍚 Rice, 🐖 Pork, 🐓 Chicken, 🥚 Eggs
-
💧Drinking water, 🥬 Vegetables, 🍎 Fruits
-
🥛Milk, ☕ Coffee, 🍜 Instant noodles
-
🧂Salt, 🍳 Cooking oil, 🧼 Laundry soap
-
🪵 Firewood, 🕯️ Candles, 💊 Medicines
-
And even 🛢️Gas for cooking and lighting
These are called “basic necessities” because people really need them to survive—especially during tough times like floods and storms.
⚠️ But wait, there’s more drama!
The city also warned stores: Don’t even think about hoarding or cheating!
-
Hoarding means keeping too much stuff in secret to sell it later at higher prices.
-
Profiteering means making big money from people’s suffering.
-
Cartels (groups secretly working together) that raise prices on purpose? Totally illegal!
🚨 If anyone breaks this rule, they could get in big trouble.
🌀 All of this happened because of the Habagat (Southwest Monsoon) and many strong storms that hit Luzon hard. Manila got flooded, and many families were affected.
💊 That’s why the Department of Health also froze prices on 148 types of medicine in areas declared in a state of calamity.
👉 The goal?
To protect the people, especially the poor, from greedy sellers while they deal with the mess left by the storms.
So now, even with all the chaos, at least the prices of your food, water, and medicine will stay the same—for now.
