TV host-actress Maine Mendoza has come to the defense of her husband, Quezon City 1st District Representative Arjo Atayde, after his name was dragged into the controversial flood control project kickback issue.
Arjo was among the lawmakers mentioned by contractors Sarah and Curlee Discaya, who claimed that several congressmen allegedly received a share or “kickback” from government flood control projects.
But Maine was quick to speak up. In a heartfelt post on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday, she called the accusations baseless and appealed to the public for fairness.
“Teka lang muna, those are baseless allegations. Please refrain from throwing hate and personal attacks at him, including me and our family, until facts come out,” Maine wrote.
Standing By Her Husband
Maine made it clear that she is standing firmly beside her husband during this storm. She stressed that Arjo has done nothing wrong and has been fully committed to serving his constituents in Quezon City.
“I am with my husband in this. Wala siyang ginagawang masama sa loob. He has been doing his best to serve the people of his district in Quezon City since the beginning,” she said.
With emotion, Maine also prayed that justice will be served, and that only those truly responsible will be held accountable.
“I sincerely hope and pray that the people who are TRULY responsible will be held accountable and that innocent individuals be spared from this mess. Napaka-unfair.”
Arjo Breaks His Silence
Following the Discaya couple’s testimony in the Senate, Arjo himself released a statement through Instagram Stories. He denied all allegations, stressing that he has never engaged in any deal with contractors.
“Hindi totoo ang mga akusasyon na ito. I have never used my position for personal gain, and I never will,” Arjo wrote.
He added that he is prepared to take legal action to clear his name and hold those spreading false claims accountable.
