LTO: Free Medical, Courier for OFW License Renewal

For overseas Filipino workers, renewing a driver’s license has long meant extra costs, long waits—and in some cases, a painful decision to fly home just to process paperwork.

Now, that burden is finally easing.

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) announced it will offer free medical examinations and courier services to OFWs renewing their driver’s licenses—right where they are working abroad.

No plane ticket.
No long lines back home.
No added expense.

The services will be delivered through renewal caravans overseas, organized in partnership with the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) and the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW).

In a statement released Wednesday, the LTO said OFWs no longer need to return to the Philippines just to renew their licenses. Instead, LTO teams will personally bring the service to them, coordinating directly with OWWA and DMW in host countries.

For many OFWs, this is more than just convenience—it’s real relief.

According to the LTO, OFWs usually spend up to ₱6,000 just for medical examinations and courier fees during license renewal. That amount may seem small to some, but for migrant workers supporting families back home, every peso counts.

Under the new memorandum, once the renewal is processed, OFWs can claim their updated driver’s licenses at selected OWWA or DMW offices, or at Philippine embassies abroad.

And it doesn’t stop there.

The LTO confirmed that the program covers not only free medical exams, but also free courier services—sending the processed driver’s licenses from the Philippines to designated offices and embassies overseas, where OFWs can personally pick them up.

It’s a simple move, but one with a powerful impact.

For Filipinos working far from home, this initiative means less stress, fewer expenses, and one less worry to carry while building a better future for their families.

Sometimes, good governance travels far—right to where our workers are.
