The Queen is wearing her Filipino colors loud and proud.
In an Instagram post, Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray wore a denim skirt inspired by the Tagakaolo tribe during her visit to the Miss Universe headquarters in New York City.
The skirt is hand-embellished with mother-of-pearl.
The Tagakaolo, according to the National Commission for Culture and the Arts, is part of the Kalagan group of tribes which belongs to the Mandaya/Mansaka group. Their communities are found in the coast and the B’laan country of Davao, as well as the tributaries of Malita and Lais, and Talaguton rivers.
Gray relocated to New York in order to fulfill her national and global projects during her reign.
She is the fourth Filipina to bag the coveted crown, following the footsteps of Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach, Miss Universe 1973 Margie Moran, and Miss Universe 1969 Gloria Diaz.
