Long queues form at EDSA carousel stations on first MECQ working day
Commuters were greeted by long queues at EDSA bus carousel stations on Monday, the first working day of the modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ).
Metro Manila would be under a MECQ since August 21, Saturday, to allow local government units and the national government to mitigate the spread of the highly contagious COVID-19 Delta variant in communities.
According to Tina Panganiban Perez’s report on “24 Oras,” long lines were seen at the Nepa Q Mart in Quezon City.
As early as 4 a.m., the bus station was filled with commuters but buses can only accommodate a limited number of passengers due to health protocols.
Meanwhile, some malls found only a slight increase in consumers because shops and services are still limited during MECQ.
However, more shoppers trooped to Divisoria in Manila, with some customers failing to follow social distancing rules. — DVM, GMA News
