Liza Soberano Confirms Breakup, Ends Love Team with Enrique

Actress Liza Soberano has confirmed something that many fans have been wondering about for years — she and Enrique Gil are no longer together.

In an emotional episode of the podcast “Can I Come In?”, Liza revealed that the breakup actually happened almost three years ago.

“I’ve been itching to tell people this because I haven’t been very truthful… Quen and I broke up,” Liza admitted, using Enrique’s nickname.

She explained that they kept it a secret because Enrique asked her not to talk about it yet. Liza agreed because, deep down, she also didn’t want it to be real. She was scared that if people knew, her career would be affected and fans might stop loving her.

Signs Before the Breakup

When the podcast host, Sarah Bahbah, asked if Liza had already left the relationship emotionally before physically breaking up, Liza said it was “yes and no.”

About a year before the split, she noticed signs that she wasn’t happy anymore. But she admitted she had a habit of avoiding problems, choosing to ignore issues instead of confronting them.

She recalled doing a mental check and realizing that some things about Enrique would never change — and she accepted it at the time, thinking that’s just how life is: “You win some, you lose some.”

Almost 8 Years Together

Liza and Enrique were together for almost eight years, and at one point, she truly thought they would get married soon. That’s why breaking up was so hard.

Still, she described their separation as a “beautiful breakup” — no cheating, no fights, no bad blood. She still loves Enrique as a person and even considers him her childhood best friend.

“When I look back, I only see good memories,” she said, though she feels some guilt for not holding on, knowing that’s what many fans wanted.

Why She Let Go

Liza said she ended things because she needed to find herself and set a good example for her younger self, her fans, and even her “future children.”

“It’s not that Enrique is a bad person — he didn’t do anything wrong. We just weren’t a match anymore,” she explained.

Life After the Breakup

Since the split, Liza has been focusing on her international career.

  • She made her Hollywood debut in the movie Lisa Frankenstein as the character “Taffy,” earning praise from American film critics.

  • She starred in Thai singer Bright’s music video Long Showers.

  • She appeared in Eric Nam’s digital series Stop ’N Snack.

  • She was spotted at Coachella, the Gold House Gala, and even Elton John’s Oscars afterparty.

Despite the heartbreak, Liza is now moving forward — chasing new dreams while keeping the good memories of her time with Enrique.
