Senate Minority Leader Alan Peter Cayetano on Wednesday expressed full support for Senate President Pro Tempore Panfilo “Ping” Lacson, who is set to return as chair of the powerful Blue Ribbon Committee.
In a heartfelt statement, Cayetano said titles and positions don’t matter as much as unity and fairness do.
“It’s not about who leads or how often leadership changes. What truly matters is if we can agree on one clear direction — and play by a fair set of rules,” Cayetano said.
He emphasized that the minority bloc respects the majority’s choice of leadership and will continue working with Lacson “in the spirit of cooperation and transparency.”
“The stakes for our nation are too high for us not to work together,” he added.
Cayetano also underscored that the Blue Ribbon Committee’s strength lies in its integrity — in uncovering the truth without bias or political agenda.
“The easy path is to use the hearings to score political points,” he said.
“The harder but necessary path is to expose the masterminds behind corruption and push for genuine, systemic reforms.”
Lacson’s Return After Resignation
Lacson’s reinstatement comes just weeks after he resigned from the post amid a heated inquiry into alleged ghost and substandard flood control projects.
He stepped down on October 6, citing dissatisfaction from other senators about the direction of the probe.
Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III confirmed that Lacson would soon be reinstated, though Lacson reportedly warned Sotto to brace for possible backlash within the majority bloc — including the potential loss of members or even his leadership.
Cayetano, however, appealed for calm and reminded everyone to keep internal politics out of the minority bloc’s work.
‘Trabaho Lang,’ Says Ejercito
Meanwhile, Senate Deputy Majority Leader JV Ejercito said he’s ready to work with whoever leads the committee.
“What’s important is that we move decisively and get to the bottom of this biggest scandal,” Ejercito said.
“Our goal should be to understand the modus behind these crimes so we can pass laws to stop them from happening again.”
Currently, Senator Erwin Tulfo serves as the acting chairperson of the Blue Ribbon Committee. Other senators considered for the role included Pia Cayetano, Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan, Raffy Tulfo, and Risa Hontiveros.
A Call for Unity
For Cayetano, this isn’t about politics — it’s about accountability.
His message was clear: the Blue Ribbon Committee must rise above division, stand firm for truth, and restore public trust in government oversight.
