Another stunning victory for Katarina Rodriguez.
The 26 year-old model won the Miss World Philippines crown Sunday evening at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
She will be representing the country in Miss World 2018 in Sanya, China in December.
Winning crowns is not new to Rodriguez as she also bagged the Miss Intercontinental Philippines title back in 2017, and even won first runner-up in the Miss Intercontinental pageant in Hurghada, Egypt.
In the final question and answer portion, Rodriguez was asked, “Some feminists believe that beauty pageants are a form of women exploitation, what can you do to change their opinion?”
She redefined competitiveness in the beauty pageant scene in her winning answer.
“I’d like to think that one should live by example and not by opinion, and I actually would like to admit I was one of those feminists before until I learned more about what beauty pageants are about. One thing I can tell you is that you may think it’s very competitive but in fact, you understand beauty pageants when you know that it is actually not competitive towards the other women. It’s competitive towards yourself. And instead it’s all about women empowerment, and you can feel that with this group of girls. I’ve been with them for two months and each girl knows that we are all individually beautiful,” she said.
Other winners include Miss Eco Philippines Maureen Montagne, Reina Hispanoamericana Filipinas Alyssa Muhlach Alvarez, Miss Multinational Philippines Kim-Lei Mugford, First Princess Chanel Morales and Second Princess Pearl Hung.
Before venturing into beauty contests, Rodriguez rose to fame after placing second in the reality television show, Asia’s Next Top Model Cycle 2 in 2014.
