Israel has shared a plan that is now making a lot of people angry—both in and out of the country. The plan is to build a closed-off “humanitarian city” in southern Gaza, where over 2 million people might be forced to live.
Defense Minister Israel Katz revealed the idea: during a possible 60-day ceasefire, Israel would create a brand-new area from scratch where Gaza’s displaced civilians would be moved.
It would start by hosting around 600,000 people, and the long-term plan is to move everyone in Gaza there. Aid groups would give out food and supplies at four main stations. Security checks would be done, and once people go in, they won’t be allowed to leave.
😡 Critics Sound the Alarm: “This Isn’t About Helping”
Many people and groups say this plan is dangerous and unfair.
📢 The United Nations said it’s like building a “concentration camp”.
📢 The UK’s Minister for the Middle East said he’s “appalled,” saying Palestinians should not lose their land.
📢 The Palestinian Authority called it “not humanitarian at all.”
📢 Amnesty International warned this could count as a war crime if people are forced to move.
Even Israeli military officials don’t agree with the plan. Army Chief Eyal Zamir reportedly said it would only distract from two main goals:
-
Stopping Hamas
-
Bringing Israeli hostages home
💰 How Much Would It Cost? A Lot.
The plan could cost $3 to $6 billion (up to ₱350 billion!). Critics inside Israel say the government is wasting money and letting far-right leaders push extreme ideas just to stay in power.
Opposition Leader Yair Lapid blasted the move online:
“Netanyahu is letting Smotrich and Ben Gvir run wild with extremist delusions.”
Both Bezalel Smotrich and Itamar Ben Gvir, who are key allies of Prime Minister Netanyahu, support re-taking Gaza and moving Palestinians out permanently—something many see as ethnic cleansing in disguise.
💥 Why Is This Happening Now?
The war between Israel and Hamas has been going on since October 7, 2023, when Hamas launched a deadly surprise attack on Israel. Over 58,000 Palestinians, mostly civilians, have died, along with over 1,200 Israelis.
Now, most of Gaza is in ruins. Many people have no homes, no food, and no clean water. This new “city” is being presented as a solution—but many fear it’s not about safety, but about removing Palestinians from their land forever.
🏜️ “It’s Just Sand—No Water, No Power, No Future”
Even some Israeli experts are warning that the location of the new city is a bad idea.
“There is only sand and fields—nothing,” said Michael Milshtein, a former Israeli military officer.
He believes this plan is one of many “fantasies” by leaders who are not telling the truth about how much re-occupying Gaza would really cost—financially, politically, and emotionally.
🧨 Could This Plan Backfire?
There are warnings that if this plan goes forward:
-
Israel may be accused of war crimes
-
People may riot or protest inside Israel
-
Palestinians could be permanently displaced
-
The war may drag on even longer
Even Israeli lawyers have written letters to stop it, saying this could break international laws.
Bottom line: The world is watching. Will this plan become a safe shelter for the displaced—or a forced prison for an entire people?
