The House of Representatives (HOR) has passed on third reading House Bill No. 8885, which institutionalizes the discount on student fare for all modes of transportation.
If enacted into law, students will soon enjoy the 20 percent discount on fares every time they use public transportation, such as public utility jeepneys, taxis and other similar vehicles-for-hire, tricycles, passenger trains, aircraft and marine vessels for the entire time that they are enrolled
Currently the student discount only covers land public transportation vehicles, as stated in a memorandum circular issued by the Land Transportation and Franchising Regulatory Board (LTFRB) in 2017.
The bill defines a student as a Filipino citizen who is currently enrolled in any elementary, secondary, technical and vocational, or higher education institution in the country. — UNTV News and Rescue
