Govt workers urged to observe Family Week

PRESIDENT Ferdinand Marcos Jr. ordered a half-day work for the executive branch on Monday, Sept. 22, to give government workers time to celebrate the 33rd National Family Week and Kainang Pamilya Mahalaga Day.

“This Office also encourages all government workers in the Executive branch to fully support the programs and activities relative to the observance of Family Week, as organized by the National Committee on the Filipino Family,” read Marcos’ Memorandum Circular 96, signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin and released on Friday.

“The suspension of work in other branches of government, independent commissions, or bodies, and the private sector is also encouraged, so as to afford Filipino families the full opportunity to celebrate the 33rd National Family Week,” it added.

Offices involving the delivery of basic and health services, preparedness/response to disasters and calamities, and/or the performance of other vital services are not covered by the memorandum.

Proclamation 60, issued in 1992, declares the last week of September of every year as Family Week, while Kainang Pamilya Mahalaga Day is celebrated every fourth Monday of September by virtue of Proclamation 326, issued in 2012.

Kainang Pamilya Mahalaga Day highlights the value of sharing meals as a national tradition.
