Govt officials, employees warned against gambling

MANILA, Philippines – The Civil Service Commission (CSC) has issued a stern warning to all government officials and employees against engaging in any form of gambling.

CSC Chairman Marilyn Yap said that the prohibition covers online gambling, mobile games that involve betting, and going to gambling places.

“The rules apply, regardless of where it happens, inside or outside of a government building, and whether the gambling platform is legal and has a license,” Yap said in a statement.

Citing the Constitution and the Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for public officials and employees as legal basis, the CSC chief said government workers must uphold ethical conduct and professionalism.

“The CSC is studying further regulatory measures and supports legislative initiatives toward establishing a comprehensive ban on gambling activities among government personnel during work hours,” Yap added.

She reiterated that civil service rules and regulations strictly prohibit government officials and employees from gambling, physical or online.

Violators may face administrative sanctions, she warned.
