As reported on Sunstar, the beauty queen, who won the title at the event held at the Mall of Asia Arena on 3 September, succeeded Catriona Gray and will compete at the Miss World 2017 competition to be held in Sanya, China this November.
Lehmann impressed judges with her answer at the competition, when asked what she would say to people who are skeptical of beauty pageants’ contribution to female empowerment.
“To anyone who don’t believe in pageants, I would ask them to take a look at the girls that we have here tonight because we have lawyers, architects, women of substance who are here not only because of what they look like but because of what’s in their hearts, what’s in their mind, and because what they’ve brought forth is beauty with a purpose.”
“They are helping represent the Philippines and become the best versions of the Filipina and for me that’s something only to celebrate, not protest,” she added.
In addition to the coveted crown, Lehmann also won Miss Cosmo Skin, Miss BYS Philippines.
Lehmann also took to Instagram to express her thoughts, writing, “Surreal. That’s the only word I can use to describe what I’m feeling right now. This is a dream to me [and] I feel like it’s going to end any moment.”
“[…] A Miss World queen is just a girl, like me, like YOU, with a passion, a purpose, and a dream. She is someone who loves her country and someone who wants to help make the world a little lighter, a little brighter, in whatever way she can. I know that there is a lot of hate and sadness in the world today but I have always believed that people are good by nature. They are deserving of all the smiles and all the happiness in the world.”
Meanwhile, fans’ favourite, actress Winwyn Marquez, won Miss Reina Hispanoamericana, and will be competing for the title in Bolivia. She also won the title of Miss Savoy Hotel Boracay.
