MANILA, Philippines — Former Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Bulacan Assistant District Engineer Brice Hernandez was returned to the Senate detention facility on Monday after a hearing on his petition for a Writ of Amparo before the Pasay Regional Trial Court Branch 112.
In a letter to Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III, Hernandez’s counsel requested his readmission to the Senate facility. Sotto granted the request.
Hernandez’s lawyers expressed confidence that both Sotto and Blue Ribbon Committee Chairman Sen. Panfilo “Ping” Lacson would handle the case with discipline and fairness. They said Hernandez’s continued stay at the Senate highlights the chamber’s resolve to confront difficult truths and safeguard those who bring them forward.
Hernandez is set to reappear before the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee in its inquiry into alleged irregularities in flood control projects.
The engineer was transferred to the Pasay City Jail on Sept. 10 from the Philippine National Police Custodial Center in Camp Crame. He was cited for contempt and ordered detained after allegedly lying under oath before the committee.
The Blue Ribbon Committee continues its probe into questionable flood control projects, with Hernandez among those at the center of the probe.
