AFTER 16 years, the hit Broadway musical Miss Saigon returned to New York City with a Filipino cast led by Jon Jon Briones and Eva Noblezada.
This revival, which originated in London, opened March 23 for a limited engagement through January 13, 2018, before launching a North American tour later that year.
The 51-year-old stage actor Briones plays the lead male role of The Engineer. This is his first time to appear on Broadway.
The lead female role of Kim, which propelled Lea Salonga to international fame, is portrayed by Noblezada, a Fil-Am from North Carolina who will also de-but on the New York stage.
Both Briones and Noblezada essayed the same roles in the West End (London) run of the musical.
Singer Rachelle Ann Go is cast as Gigi, the bar girl, the same role she had at the West End. Her contract ends on Au-gust 2017. After that she moves on to play Eliza Hamilton in the West End production of the hit musical Hamilton.
Miss Saigon first opened in London in 1989 before coming to New York City two years later. It had a strong run of over 10 years in both cities, and has been staged many times around the world over the past 28 years.
