Filipinos Spared in Texas Floods Amid Widespread Devastation

A huge flood has hit parts of Texas, USA, and sadly, many lives were lost. But the good news is — no Filipinos have been reported dead, according to the Philippine Consulate in Houston.

“So far, we haven’t received any reports of Filipino casualties,” the Consulate said.
“We hope it stays that way in the coming days.”

What Happened?

Flash floods—sudden and strong floods—rushed through places like Kerr County, Kerrville City, and Central Texas. These areas were hit really hard. Roads got washed out, homes were destroyed, and families were separated.

The Philippine Consulate is working directly with Filipino communities in those areas to make sure our kababayans (fellow Filipinos) are safe.

“We’ve talked to Filipinos in Kerrville City,” said a representative from the Consulate’s Assistance to Nationals (ATN) office.
“So far, they are okay. But we are still checking.”

A Tragic Toll

According to Texas Governor Greg Abbott, as of Sunday:

  • 78 people have died

  • 68 deaths were in Kerr County

  • 28 children were among those who died 😢

  • 10 others died in other parts of Texas

  • 41 people are still missing

Search and rescue teams are still working to find those who haven’t been located.

Filipino Family Shares Their Flood Experience

Bethany Bayer, a Filipino living in San Angelo, Texas, shared a scary moment with GMA News. Her house, where she lives with her husband, got flooded too.

She said they usually don’t get heavy rain in San Angelo, so they were shocked and scared when they woke up Friday morning and saw water already inside their home.

“It rained so hard, we didn’t expect it. Our house was already flooded when we woke up,” she said.

Bethany also sent a video showing the deep water rising outside her house.

What’s the Consulate Doing?

The Philippine Consulate in Houston is:

  • Monitoring the situation 24/7

  • Coordinating with local police and rescue teams

  • Talking to Filipino communities

  • Ready to help any Filipinos who might need food, shelter, or emergency help

“We’re in touch with local authorities and Filipino residents. If any Filipino needs help, we’re here to support them,” the Consulate said.

Important Reminders

The Consulate is urging all Filipinos in Texas to:

  • Listen to emergency announcements

  • Call for help right away if they are in danger

  • Keep safe and follow local safety instructions

Even though the flood brought heartbreak and loss to many, the Filipino community in Texas has so far remained safe — and the Consulate is staying alert to keep it that way.
