In fight vs ‘devil’, Trillanes hopes for ‘miracle’ in coup d’état case

Up against a “devil,” opposition Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV now only hopes for a “miracle” as he awaits the ruling of another court in Makati on the nonbailable coup d’état charge against him.

“Milagro ang hinahantay natin from Branch 148. Kumbaga slightly more hopeful but we have to expect for the worst,” Trillanes said at a press briefing at the Senate late Tuesday afternoon.

The senator was granted temporary liberty by Makati Regional Trial Court Branch 150 after posting bail for the rebellion case filed against him in connection with the 2007 Manila Peninsula siege.

But aside from rebellion, a case of coup d’ etat had also been filed at Makati RTC Branch 148.

Asked if the arrest order was a prelude for another arrest order from Makati RTC Branch 148, Trillanes said: “Well, sa ganitong bakbakan, you have to expect for everything. You have to expect the worst.”

“Ang kalaban mo demonyo eh, so lahat ng kasamaan i-expect-in mo.”

“Alam naman natin ang panlaban sa demonyo ay panalangin at maraming kababayan tayong nanalangin… ‘Yun ang nagbibigay sa atin ng lakas,” he further said.

Trillanes admitted being dismayed by the issuance of an arrest order against him, lamenting that the judiciary has already surrendered to the pressure of “dictator” President Rodrigo Duterte.

The charges against the senator have been revived following Duterte’s decision to revoke his amnesty and ordered for Trillanes’ arrest via Proclamation No. 572 signed last August 30.

“Talagang nakakadismaya na itong hudikatura ay tumiklop sa pressure nitong diktator na si Mr. Duterte,” Trillanes said.  /kga
