February Inflation Seen Rising Faster — BSP

After a brief slowdown, inflation may be picking up speed once more.

The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) is now expecting February 2026 inflation to accelerate — a development that could once again put pressure on household budgets across the country.

In its latest month-ahead forecast, the central bank projected inflation to land between 2.3% and 3.1% for February.

That’s noticeably faster than January’s 2% rate.

And for many Filipinos, even small increases can feel big.

What’s Driving Prices Up?

According to the BSP, several key items may be pushing prices higher.

Rice.
Fish.
Fuel.
Electricity.

Higher domestic petroleum prices and increased power charges in Meralco-serviced areas are adding to the pressure. For families already stretching every peso, these essentials matter most.

When fuel rises, transportation costs follow.
When electricity increases, monthly bills grow heavier.
When food prices climb, daily meals cost more.

It’s a chain reaction — one that touches nearly every home.

Some Relief on the Horizon?

But it’s not all bad news.

The BSP said some price pressures could be softened by lower costs of vegetables, fruits, and meat. A stronger peso may also help ease imported price burdens.

In short, there are forces pushing inflation up — and others pulling it down.

Where it finally settles, we’ll soon find out.

Official Numbers Coming Soon

The Philippine Statistics Authority is set to release the official February 2026 inflation data on March 5.

Until then, all eyes remain on the numbers.

BSP: Staying Watchful

Despite the expected uptick, the central bank assured the public that it is closely monitoring both local and global developments.

Its goal remains clear:

Price stability.
Sustainable growth.
Steady employment.

Because behind every percentage point is a real story — a family budgeting carefully, a small business managing costs, a worker hoping their paycheck stretches just a little further.

And in uncertain times, stability matters more than ever.
