The Philippine Embassy in Qatar has called on Filipinos to remain calm yet vigilant after reports confirmed that Israel launched an attack on Hamas officials in Doha.
In an official statement, the embassy advised Filipinos to take extra caution.
“In view of recent developments in Doha, the Embassy of the Republic of the Philippines in the State of Qatar urges all Filipino nationals to remain calm, monitor news from credible sources, and heed the advice of local authorities,” it said.
The advisory also urged Filipinos to stay indoors and avoid public spaces unless absolutely necessary.
Attack Sparks Regional Tension
According to Reuters, Israel carried out an airstrike targeting top Hamas leaders in Qatar on Tuesday. The strike marks a significant escalation of the conflict, extending Israel’s military actions across the Middle East into the Gulf Arab state where Hamas has long maintained its political base.
Qatar, which has acted as a key mediator alongside Egypt in ceasefire talks for the nearly two-year war in Gaza, condemned the strike. Officials described it as “cowardly” and a flagrant violation of international law.
Despite the attack, Hamas sources confirmed that members of its ceasefire negotiating team survived.
Israel’s Target
Israeli officials told Reuters the strike was aimed at senior Hamas figures, including Khalil al-Hayya, the group’s exiled Gaza chief and top negotiator.
Embassy’s Reminder
With tensions running high, the Philippine Embassy emphasized its priority: the safety and security of Filipinos in Qatar. It reiterated the importance of avoiding unnecessary exposure, relying only on trusted news sources, and following local authorities’ instructions at all times.
