‘Education-on-Wheels’ rolls off in Pasig City

MANILA, Philippines — Pasig City has launched its Education-on-Wheels program to bring learning resources closer to children.

The Pasig City Social Welfare and Development Office will deploy the mobile classroom across the city to deliver books and lessons, in partnership with the Department of Education.

Mayor Vico Sotto said in a statement released on Wednesday that the project was first introduced in Barangay Rosario.

Sotto said that Education-on-Wheels is not just a mobile library but a display of commitment to expand education interventions for underprivileged youth.

The initiative was funded through the Department of the Interior and Local Government’s Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) incentive fund. Pasig received the citation during the 2024 SGLG awards.

As an SGLG recipient, Pasig received up to P2.3 million in funding and a customized vehicle worth P1.87 million.

The SGLG is a national incentive program under Republic Act 11292, awarded only to local government units that pass strict criteria in areas such as financial administration, social protection, disaster preparedness, peace and order, health compliance, environment, and youth development.
