The family of veteran actor Eddie Garcia granted his wish to be cremated, with a green urn containing his ashes Friday morning.
Garcia, 90, passed away on Thursday afternoon after nearly two weeks in a comatose state. The multi-awarded actor and director suffered a neck fracture after tripping during a taping for a TV series on June 8.
At 3:20 a.m. of Friday, his stepson 1-PACMAN Party List Representative Mikee Romero shared a first look at Garcia’s olive green urn.
Garcia had long said publicly that when he dies, he wants his body to be brought straight to a crematorium.
Malacañang joined thousands of Filipinos who mourned Garcia’s death, saying that his 70-year legacy in the local entertainment industry is unparalleled. Garcia has been named a hall of famer for the Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor and Best Director categories of the annual Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences (FAMAS) Awards.
Romero said the wake will be opened to the public beginning 2 p.m. of Friday until Sunday at the Heritage Memorial Park in Taguig.
