Veteran actor Eddie Garcia suffered a “severe heart attack” on Saturday, his family said.
Initial reports on social media said Garcia figured in an accident as he was taping a GMA TV series. CNN Philippines is still trying to independently verify this information.
In a statement posted by GMA Network, Garcia’s family said the actor is under critical observation by doctors.
“Please continue praying for Tito Eddie’s fast recovery. At 90, he is still doing what he loves most — acting. He is a pillar of the industry and is very passionate about his craft,” Garcia’s family said.
Photos have now gone viral on social media showing the actor being carried by several men, while one placed an ice pack on his forehead.
The multi-awarded actor and director added new trophies to his shelf last year for his performances in the films “ML,” “Hintayan ng Langit,” and “Rainbow’s Sunset.”
A former member of the Philippine Scouts, Garcia, 90, has not been out of the limelight since he started working in showbiz in 1949.
Speaking to CNN Philippines Life in April, Garcia said retirement is “not in his vocabulary.”T
