Duterte admits undergoing medical check-up, vows to announce if cancer is confirmed
President Rodrigo Duterte admitted on Thursday (October 4) that he went the Cardinal Santos Medical Center to undergo medical procedures.
The President confirmed that he had to repeat his colonoscopy and endoscopy procedures to verify the condition of his digestive system.
The Chief Executive said the findings suggested that his Barret’s esophagus or gastroesophageal reflux has worsened. This condition developed from his previous drinking habit.
The President promised to make his condition public once he receives verification.
“So it got worse. I don’t know where — where I’m now physically but I have to wait for that… But I would tell you that — if it’s cancer, it’s cancer. And if it’s third stage, no more treatment. I will not prolong my agony in this office or anywhere.”
However, according to Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea, the President “submits to (colonoscopy) on a yearly basis.”
Aside from this, the President also complains of perpetual pain in the spine stemming from an injury he sustained in a motorcycle accident years ago. – Rosalie Coz / Marje Pelayo
