THE Department of Labor and Employment (DoLE) gave assurances that the families of the two overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) killed in a gas explosion in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates would receive assistance from the government.
Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello 3rd on Wednesday said each family would receive P120,000 bereavement assistance and insurance benefits if they were members of the Overseas Workers’ Welfare Administration.
The victims were identified as Clark Bacud Gasis and Merriner Goc-ong Bertoces.
The Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) in Abu Dhabi said eight other Filipinos, including two children, were injured in the blast caused by a gas leak inside a Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) restaurant along Airport Road on August 31.
The explosion instantly killed Gasis, 39, an electrical draughtsman from Surigao del Sur and Bertoces, 26, a KFC employee from Negros Oriental.
