DOJ creates task force to probe flood control projects

MANILA, Philippines —The Department of Justice (DOJ) has created a special task force to investigate alleged corruption and bid-rigging in flood control projects under the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Director Jaime Santiago confirmed that Prosecutor General Richard Anthony Fadullon has been designated to head the new body, which will be supported by the NBI’s Public Corruption Division as lead investigator. Santiago said that although Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla is still finalizing the task force’s composition, preliminary work is underway through the mobilization of the NBI’s Deputy Director for Investigation.

An initial report on the alleged anomalies is expected to be submitted to the DOJ within the week.

The NBI chief said his agency is prepared to coordinate with the Independent Commission for Infrastructure, which was created by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., to ensure a “thorough and coordinated” inquiry.
