DOH on High Alert as “Nimbus” Spreads Nearby! 🚨🦠
Hold on—there’s a new COVID-19 variant out there… and it’s got a scary nickname: “Nimbus.” It’s been making people sick in some parts of Southeast Asia, and now, the Philippines is watching closely.
But don’t worry — so far, we don’t have a single case in the country. 🙏🇵🇭
🧬 What is “Nimbus” and Why is It a Big Deal?
This new COVID variant is officially called NB.1.8.1, but people are calling it “Nimbus” — maybe because it sounds mysterious and spreads fast. 🌀
What makes it scarier? 😖
It’s been giving people a very painful symptom known as “razor blade throat” — which feels like your throat is full of sharp cuts. Ouch! 😣
📣 What Did the DOH Say?
DOH Secretary Teodoro Herbosa spoke during a press briefing and said:
“We haven’t seen Nimbus in the Philippines yet. But now that it’s been reported in other countries, we’re keeping a close watch.”
So while no cases yet, the Department of Health is on alert. 🚨
🛡️ Are We Protected Against Nimbus?
Here’s some good news:
If you got vaccinated before, your COVID-19 vaccine still helps against this new variant.
“It seems the old vaccines still work on Nimbus,” Secretary Herbosa said.
That means if you already got your shots, your body has some armor against it! 💉🛡️
☔ Rainy Season = Flu + COVID Watch!
The DOH reminds everyone that the rainy season brings more flu-like illnesses, and COVID is one of them.
So if you feel sick, don’t panic — but also don’t ignore it. It could be a regular flu, or something else. 🤒🌧️
🔬 How Will They Know If Nimbus Reaches PH?
The DOH has scientists and doctors doing what’s called genome sequencing. 🧪🔍
That means they will:

Pick COVID samples from patients

Send them to the RITM lab (Research Institute for Tropical Medicine)

Look closely at the virus to see if Nimbus is here or not
They’re also talking to other countries to stay updated on what new variants are showing up.

Not yet. But the DOH says:
“Everyone should still be careful, especially now that it’s flu season.”
