DOH encourages voters to get vaccinated for COVID-19 after casting May 9 ballot

A Department of Health (DOH) official on Sunday encouraged voters to get inoculated for COVID-19 from the vaccination centers near polling places.

Health Undersecretary Myrna Cabotaje said that voters can get their primary doses of COVID-19 and booster shots in the vaccination sites set up near polling places on Monday.

“Please kung wala po kayong kahit anong bakuna ang icacater natin 18 years and above.. first dose pwede po yan, second dose, kailangan ninyo lang po dalhin yung inyong vaccination cards para alam natin kung ano yung interval. Tapos yung first booster pwede na pong ibigay,” she said in an interview in Super Radyo dzBB.

(Please, for those individuals aged 18 and above who have not yet received their COVID-19 vaccines, they may get their first dose and second dose. Just bring their vaccination cards in order to know the interval of their vaccine doses. Booster shots may also be given.)

Cabotaje, however, emphasized that it was not a requirement to get vaccinated before voting.

“Gusto lang po natin ipaalala, ito yung bilin sa atin ng Commission on Elections (Comelec), na hindi po requirement magpabakuna bago bumoto. After the voting then you can have your succeeding first dose po,” she added.

(I just want to remind everyone, as said by the Comelec, it is not a requirement to get vaccinated before voting. After voting then you can have your succeeding first dose.)

Comelec spokesperson Rex Laudiangco said they would strictly enforce public health standards to prevent COVID-19 infections on election day.

However, Laudiangco added that they had advised health authorities to set up COVID-19 vaccination sites farther away from the voting precincts.

Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said earlier that vaccination sites must be at least 30 meters away from the voting precincts.

Voters need only bring their vaccination cards, if any, and a valid ID. — DVM, GMA News
