DMW Warns OFWs: Stop Sharing Attack-Related Posts

In times of conflict… even a simple post can have serious consequences.

As tensions continue to rise in the Middle East, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) has issued a strong reminder to overseas Filipino workers:

Be careful what you share.

A Warning Rooted in Real Consequences

The reminder didn’t come out of nowhere.

It followed the arrest of several OFWs in the United Arab Emirates—reportedly for uploading videos of recent missile attacks on social media.

What may seem like harmless sharing… can quickly turn into a legal issue abroad.

And in some countries, the rules are strict.

Very strict.

Follow the Law—Wherever You Are

DMW Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac emphasized one key message:

OFWs must strictly follow the laws and security protocols of their host countries.

Because beyond borders… different rules apply.

And not knowing them… doesn’t excuse breaking them.

Government Steps In to Help

For the affected workers, help is already on the way.

The Philippine government has assured that legal assistance is being provided.

The Migrant Workers Office in Abu Dhabi has also reached out to the families—offering updates, support, and reassurance during a difficult time.

Because behind every OFW… is a family waiting, worrying, hoping.

Why Posting Can Be Dangerous

Authorities in the UAE revealed that at least 25 individuals of different nationalities are now facing arrest and fast-tracked trials for sharing content about the conflict.

The reason?

These posts can trigger fear… spread panic… and even expose sensitive security information.

Worse, they can be used to spread misleading narratives.

In a time of uncertainty, information becomes powerful—and dangerous.

Embassy Confirms Arrests, Extends Support

The Philippine Embassy in the UAE has confirmed that two OFWs are among those arrested.

Their location has been identified.

Legal assistance is ongoing.

And a request for a consular visit has already been made—pending approval from UAE authorities.

A Clear Message to All OFWs

The embassy’s reminder is firm and urgent:

Follow local laws.

Be responsible online.

And think twice before posting—especially during sensitive situations.

This includes not just photos and videos… but even AI-generated content.

Because in moments like this…

One post can protect you.

Or put everything at risk.
