Diokno, Akbayan lawmakers join rally at People Power Monument

MANILA, Philippines — The three Akbayan lawmakers — Chel Diokno, Percival Cendana and Dadah Kiram Ismula—joined groups and civic organizations from various areas in Metro Manila that gathered at the People Power Monument in EDSA, Quezon City Sunday.

They called on the administration of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to make sure that it would hold accountable through the Independent Commission on Infrastructure (ICI) all those responsible for the massive corruption involving infrastructure projects.

Diokno said it was not enough that the speaker of the House of Representatives stepped down and the secretary of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPHW) was replaced.

“Those responsible from Congress down to DPWH and contractors must be criminally held liable and they must return the money they stole from the taxes of the people’s hard-earned money,” Diokno said.

Ismula believed that similar anomalous projects could be found in Mindanao.

Cendana reiterated Akbayan’s call on President Marcos to hold those accountable and spare no one even if they are his relatives.

Groups under the TAMA NA movement marched on EDSA shouting “end corruption.”
