The Commission on Elections (Comelec) will begin its 48-hour online overseas voting test run with information technology firm Indra on Saturday, September 25.
In an online briefing, Comelec Office for Overseas Voting (OFOV) director Sonia Bea Wee-Lozada said the test run will include 669 voters who agreed to participate as they were given consent forms and they have existing voter records.
The test run will be from September 25 at 8 a.m. (Manila time) until September 27 at 8 a.m. (Manila time).
However, Comelec said Indra’s voting system is “stricter” because it requires voters to register which will start from Sept. 20, Monday at 4 p.m. to Sept. 24, Friday at 11:59 p.m.
If participants fail to register and conduct the onboarding process, they will not be able to cast their votes.
“Ibig sabihin if they are not able to onboard, they will not be able to cast their votes during the 48-hour period,” said Lozada.
Requirements of voter participants
On Indra’s registration system, participants of the test run must have either a computer, tablet, or phone with a camera to capture their facial image and record a video.
They must also have updated browsers such as Chrome, Firefox, or Edge.
Further, voters should have a valid identity document such as passport, seaman’s book, and other government IDs with a clear photo.
For the validation process of the voters, Comelec officers will accept or reject the registration request according to the reliability of the information received.
The result of validation will be sent to the voter by e-mail.
Other technology providers Voatz and Smartmatic already conducted their pilot runs.
Before internet voting can be done in the regular elections, there must still be legislation to be pushed in Congress.–AOL, GMA News
