Cebu Pacific Bags Big Win: Sustainability Deal of the Year

Manila – Cebu Pacific (CEB), the Philippines’ leading low-cost carrier, just earned global recognition for its commitment to sustainability.

On September 17, in London, CEB was awarded the Sustainability Aviation Lease Deal of the Year at the 2025 Airline Economics Sustainability Deals Awards.

The honor was given for Cebu Pacific’s sustainability-linked Japanese Operating Lease with Call Option (JOLCO) — a first for any low-cost airline in Southeast Asia. This financing made possible the delivery of a brand-new Airbus A321neo in December 2024.

A Clear Commitment to Sustainability

“Sustainability is integral to how we grow as an airline,” said Mark Cezar, CEB’s Chief Financial Officer.

“By linking our financing to sustainability goals, we show that strategy and responsibility can work together. It strengthens the business, allows us to invest in modern fuel-efficient aircraft, and creates value for our customers.”

And the numbers prove it. The Airbus A321neo is 20% more fuel-efficient than older-generation aircraft. Every flight means fewer carbon emissions — a step closer to the airline’s goal of transitioning to an all-NEO fleet.

Beyond Just Planes — A Promise

What makes this deal different is accountability. Cebu Pacific has committed to measurable targets to reduce the carbon emission intensity of its fleet. If those goals are met, the airline qualifies for financial incentives — proof that being green is not just symbolic, but practical and rewarding.

A Win for the Philippines, A Win for Aviation

At a time when the aviation industry faces mounting pressure to cut emissions, this recognition places the Philippines on the map.

CEB’s CEO Mike Szucs personally received the award at the Natural History Museum in London, surrounded by leaders and innovators all driving the aviation industry toward a cleaner, greener future.

The Airline Economics Sustainability Awards spotlight not just companies, but people, who are daring enough to reimagine how aviation can thrive without leaving the planet behind.

✨ For millions of Filipinos who fly with Cebu Pacific, this win is more than just an award. It’s a promise that affordable flights and sustainability can soar together.
