CamSur provincial gov’t prepares for the influx of Chinese tourists

Wakeboarding at the CamSur Water Sports Complex, beautiful beaches and other scenic views in Caramoan are just some of the tourist attractions in Camarines Sur.

According to Governor Miguel “Migs” Villafuerte, the local government is in talks with several travel operators in China about bringing in an estimated 50,000 Chinese tourists in the province.

The provincial government plans to build, among others, the so-called CamSur Tourism Center which is worth P60-million.

The said tourism center is expected to bring job opportunities, especially to the youth.

“Ang hamon lang nila, Chinese-ready ba ang Camarines Sur? Meaning, may mga translators ba kayo dyan? May mga Chinese signages ba kayo dyan. So yan po ang i-incorporate po natin doon sa bagong tourism building,”  said the governor.

(The challenge is whether Camarines Sur is “Chinese-ready”.  Meaning, do we have translators? Do we have Chinese signages here? So we need to incorporate those in the new tourism building.)

Meanwhile, Chris Hopf of the CWC said that the 200-hectare CamSur Watersport Center will always have foreign tourist visitors.

It can be noted the CamSur Watersport Center also hosts the World Championship Wakeboarding.

“Three to six months is probably the average stay for most foreign guests just because of the weather and because of the part itself,” said the CWC manager.

Furthermore, the youngest governor in the country noted that the tourism sector brings additional revenue to the province.

“The revenue increased because all of these facilities are provincial-owned. The provincial government has almost over P100m additional income,” said Villafuerte.
