A major business group has welcomed the Philippine government’s decision to allow Chinese nationals to enter the country visa-free for 14 days—calling it a bold step that could reshape the nation’s tourism future.
On Friday, the Federation of Filipino Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry Inc. (FFCCCII) praised the new policy, describing it as a “decisive and progressive reform” that places the Philippines on equal footing with its Southeast Asian neighbors competing for the Chinese travel market.
For FFCCCII President Victor Lim, the timing couldn’t be more crucial.
He pointed out that Chinese outbound travel is expected to exceed pre-pandemic levels of 155 million trips—and could surge past 200 million journeys by 2028.
That wave, he said, represents the world’s largest and most influential tourist market.
“This is a colossal opportunity,” Lim said, noting that Chinese travelers are actively reshaping global tourism through their spending power and travel habits.
With visa-free access now in place, Lim believes the Philippines is better positioned to stand out.
“The country’s new visa-free entry is a critical step,” he said, “to make sure our beautiful archipelago becomes the destination of choice for Chinese tourists.”
Beyond words of support, FFCCCII pledged action.
Lim said the group will give its full and active backing to the government’s tourism agenda, mobilizing its business networks to promote the Philippines—not just to Chinese travelers, but to the world.
Under the new policy, which takes effect on January 16, Chinese nationals may enter the Philippines visa-free for up to 14 days for tourism and business purposes.
The move comes less than three months after the Philippines resumed issuing e-Visas to Chinese nationals in November—signaling a faster, more welcoming approach to travel.
The Chinese Embassy in Manila also welcomed the development, saying the eased visa policy sends a “positive signal” for Philippine-China relations.
For many in the business community, the message is clear:
The Philippines is open—and ready—to welcome the world.
