A powerful thunderstorm surprised everyone in Metro Manila on Saturday afternoon! The rain poured so hard and fast that many roads got flooded, making it really hard for people and cars to pass.
Even nearby places like Bulacan, Pampanga, and Cavite were hit by the heavy rain, said the weather experts from PAGASA.
By 7:40 p.m., the MMDA (Metropolitan Manila Development Authority) shared a list of roads that were filled with water:
🌧️ In Quezon City:
-
EDSA Northbound after Quezon Avenue flyover – water was up to half the height of the sidewalk. Cars could still pass.
-
Quezon Avenue, Biak na Bato (Eastbound & Westbound) – water was as high as a person’s waist! Small cars couldn’t go through.
-
EDSA Northbound, Balintawak – water only up to the gutter, still passable.
-
Sto. Domingo Avenue and Atok Street – waist-deep flood on both sides! Cars were stuck.
🌧️ In Manila City:
-
España from Lacson to Vicente Cruz (both ways) – water reached up to the knees! Small vehicles couldn’t get through.
-
España Blvd and Antipolo Street corner – water was 26 inches deep (that’s almost up to your bike tires!). Not safe for small cars.
🌧️ In Malabon City:
-
M.H. del Pilar, Brgy. Tinajeros – water was up to the gutter. Still passable.
-
Gov. Pascual Avenue, Brgy. Acacia – same, gutter-deep flood but cars could still drive through.
🌧️ In Valenzuela City:
-
McArthur Highway near Fatima University – ankle-deep water, cars could pass slowly.
But wait — there’s more rain coming!
PAGASA warned that more rain and storms are expected over the next 24 hours because of:
-
Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ)
-
Southwest Monsoon (Habagat)
-
Easterlies (wind from the east)
⚠️ What to Expect in Other Places:
-
Zamboanga Peninsula, Caraga, Northern Mindanao, Davao Region, and Negros Island Region: More rain and thunder because of ITCZ.
-
Palawan and Western Mindanao: Rain and thunderstorms caused by Habagat.
-
Eastern Visayas, Bicol Region, and Quezon Province: Wet weather due to easterlies.
Even Metro Manila and the rest of the country might get more sudden rain showers or thunderstorms later due to localized storms.
📢 Stay safe! Always bring an umbrella, wear boots if needed, and avoid flooded roads if you can. Don’t forget to check weather updates!
