Tourists Flock to Tagaytay for Long Weekend, Fuel Costs High

Tagaytay and Batangas: A Long Weekend Escape

As the long weekend approached, a wave of excitement swept through the Philippines. Despite the rise in fuel prices, countless tourists packed their bags and set off for the scenic vistas of Tagaytay and Batangas. Their mantra echoed in the air: “Kahit mahal, kailangan mag-unwind konti. Para sa barkada rin,” as one adventurous traveler put it. For many, unwinding has become more than a luxury; it has become a necessity.

Among the eager explorers was a group of dedicated teachers who traveled all the way from Pangasinan to Lemery, Batangas. Their journey, although costly in terms of fuel, was filled with laughter and camaraderie. One teacher reflected, “It’s worth every drop of gasoline spent. The memories we create together are priceless.”

As the sun began to rise higher in the sky, the Tagaytay–Nasugbu Highway saw an influx of vehicles. Motorists made frequent stops; the enticing aroma of local food beckoning them to feast before continuing their journey. As families headed toward the popular beach spots of Batangas, it was evident that these destinations held a special place in the hearts of many.

Yet, despite the bustling activity, Tagaytay’s tourist numbers were still shy of the usual crowds. Vendors lining the roads observed, “Noong nag-roll back ang gasolina, medyo dumadami po ang mga turista.” The increase in travelers had brought a glimmer of hope, but for some, like one vendor who shared her struggle, earnings had plummeted from P1,500 on good days to just P500.

Later that Friday, as the afternoon light began to fade, popular attractions like Palace in the Sky and Picnic Grove came alive with visitors. Families, especially those from nearby Cavite, seized the holiday to reconnect and create cherished moments. Among the crowd was the remarkable “Jeddy the Wizkid,” a local student who recently made headlines for earning 65 medals at his moving-up ceremony. His infectious energy added to the festive spirit.

In Tagaytay and Batangas, amidst the rise in fuel prices and the challenges of daily life, the joy of togetherness and the beauty of shared experiences shone through. For many, the journey was about more than just reaching a destination; it was about the laughter shared, the memories made, and the rejuvenation of the spirit that comes from a day spent with loved ones. No amount of fuel cost could diminish that precious joy.
