A terrible plane crash happened in Philadelphia on Friday, and at least seven people died. Six of the people who died were from Mexico, and one person who was on the ground also lost their life. This was confirmed by both the Mayor of Philadelphia and the President of Mexico on Saturday.
Philadelphia’s Mayor, Cherelle Parker, said during a press conference that the person who died on the ground was sitting in a car when the plane crashed nearby. She also mentioned that 19 other people were hurt in the crash.
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum shared on social media that she had asked consular officials to help support the families of the six Mexicans who died in the crash.
The plane that crashed was operated by Jet Rescue Air Ambulance, a company based in Mexico but allowed to fly in the U.S. The plane was on its way to Tijuana, Mexico. On board were four crew members, one child who was a patient, and the child’s mother. The child was a girl, and she was traveling home with her mother after receiving medical care. Shai Gold, a corporate strategy worker for Jet Rescue Air Ambulance, told CNN that the girl and her mother were both on the plane when it crashed.
