A growing tension is building across the country…
Because Storm Uwan is coming.
PAGASA has raised Signal No. 1 in 21 areas nationwide as Severe Tropical Storm Uwan continues its approach toward the Philippines. People in these communities are now urged to brace for winds reaching 39 to 61 km/h within at least 36 hours.
📍 Which areas are affected?
These include major portions of Southern Luzon, Bicol Region, Eastern Visayas, and parts of the Visayas:
-
Southeastern Quezon
-
Eastern Romblon
-
Camarines Norte and Camarines Sur
-
Catanduanes, Albay, Sorsogon, Masbate
-
Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, Samar, Biliran
-
Leyte and Southern Leyte
-
Northern and central Cebu, including Bantayan and Camotes Islands
-
Northeastern Bohol
-
Northern Negros Occidental
-
Northeastern Capiz and Iloilo
-
Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte
These communities are no strangers to storms — but every new one brings uncertainty.
PAGASA reminds everyone that minimal to minor impacts may still occur under Signal No. 1. And that alert level can rise fast.
In fact, forecasters warn that Wind Signal No. 5 — the highest warning — may eventually be raised along Uwan’s path.
💨 How strong is Uwan right now?
As of the latest update, Uwan was spotted 1,175 km east of Eastern Visayas with:
-
Maximum sustained winds: 110 km/h
-
Gusts: up to 135 km/h
It is still outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility…
But not for long. Uwan is expected to enter Friday night or early Saturday.
⚠️ What’s the worst-case scenario?
There is a possibility that Uwan could:
-
Intensify into a typhoon within 24 hours
-
Reach super typhoon status by Saturday evening or Sunday morning
-
Make landfall between southern Isabela and northern Aurora
— late Sunday or early Monday
And even areas outside the forecast track may experience:
✅ Severe winds
✅ Heavy rainfall
✅ Dangerous storm surges
Coastal communities — especially in Northern Luzon and the east coast of Central and Southern Luzon — are advised to stay alert for life-threatening flooding.
PAGASA is also preparing to issue gale warnings by Friday night or Saturday morning across Luzon, Visayas, and Caraga.
🚨 A Call for Preparedness
As families watch the skies darken and winds grow stronger, one message is clear:
Prepare early. Stay informed. And keep each other safe.
More updates to come as Uwan draws closer.
