AT least 107 patients infected with coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19)recovered, the Department of Health (DoH) said on Tuesday, bringing the total count to 2,106 from 1,999.The steady increase of recoveries is attributed to the DoH’s new directive of including the patients who have recovered at home to the tally.Tuesday’s case bulletin also reported 264 new cases of the coronavirus, bringing the total to 11,350 from Monday’s 11,086.Of 264 cases, 63 percent or 165 patients were from the National Capital Region, 28 percent or 74 patients from Central Visayas, while 9 percent or 25 were from other regions.
While the cases clearly keep on increasing, this does not indicate that the country is not “flattening the curve.”
In fact, experts from the DoH have pointed out that the Philippines has not yet breached its highest daily increase — at 538 cases on March 31 — even if the testing capacity of the country has increased exponentially.
The county currently has 28 referral laboratories which conducts confirmatory tests using reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test kits nationwide.
25 more patients have succumbed to the disease, bringing the count to 751.
As of posting time, the John Hopkins University tracker ranked Philippines at third in Southeast Asia, behind Indonesia and Singapore with 14,265 and 27,671 cases respectively. The country ranked second in deaths behind Indonesia with 991.
